Negros Oriental was a revelation. I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I did. It was a packed beach vacation that showed some us of the country's best. Our home here was Atmosphere Resorts and Spa, a beautiful eco-resort within a seven-acre coconut plantation in Dauin (a municipality outside Dumaguete City). It was the absolute jump-off point to the islands within the region.
We stayed in the one of the resort's charming 14 Deluxe Suite Rooms.
The room can comfortably fit two or three people.
Our Dutch family stayed in the Family Suite Room (Maximum of four people), which was the newest accommodation in the resort. More modern touches were added to this.
An outdoor bathroom was definitely a plus for this trip.
The most luxurious type of accommodation is the Penthouse. Each of the four Penthouses has a generous 200-square meter floor area with a full kitchen, master and guest bathroom. This is ideal for people families traveling with kids.
The balcony has a dining and lounging area.
The great thing about dining in Atmosphere resorts is their wide array of choices - from simple sandwiches to healthy options. Outside guests are welcome here but advanced reservation is needed.
1) Spa Treatments at the Sanctuary is a must.
All guests are given a complimentary 10-minute head massage but I highly recommend getting a full treatment at night.
2) Diving. Diving doesn't get better than this.
Apo island, about 30 minutes from the resort, is home to the most diverse marine life in the world. This is five-star diving at its best. (Will be posting underwater photos next time).
3) Travel to Santander and Oslob, Cebu. I am still not a big fan of swimming with the whale sharks. This is indeed a once in a lifetime experience for people but I still believe there is a better way to do this. The local fishermen can disrupt the feeding habits of the whalesharks.
Sumilon Island and its beautiful sandbar would be the perfect daytrip or you can stay overnight in Bluewater Resort.
4) Go to the famous Manjuyod Sandbar in Bais and go Dolphin Watching.
Manjuyod Sandbar has seven kilometers of white sand but if you include ALL the submerged portions, it is actually almost 600 hectares! You need to coordinate with the resort and local boatmen since they know the schedule of the high tide and low tide. There are no luxury resorts here but you can stay overnight in one those over-water houses.
A few minutes from here, you can go to Tañon Strait and watch dolphins play!
5) Visit the mystical island of Siquijor. We were not able to do this but this gave us another reason to come back.
After a long day, there is no better place than the resort's poolside area -- whether you want to swim or lounge.
