I sometimes forget how magnificent the sunsets are in Manila Bay. With certainty and pride, I believe it is one of the best in the world. Those sunsets even helped me in deciding where I would take my Dermatology Residency (Not a big factor but a bonus. I knew that sunsets would save me every time I had a bad day at the hospital). However, I noticed something was missing -- that little extra that would add life and inspiration to the bay. Last June 15 2016, that became possible when Conrad Hotel, through its partnership with SM group, opened its first property in the Philippines.
Designed to look like a luxury cruise ship, Conrad Manila definitely stands out. WOW architects from Singapore wanted to bring a refreshing addition to the hotels in Manila.
The property has 347 modern rooms and suites, some with panoramic views of the bay.
I was fortunate enough to be given the spacious King Premier Room.
How can you go wrong with 300 thread count sheets?
Plus pizza and a rerun of Legally Blonde (My guilty pleasure)?
Unexpectedly, my favorite part of the room was the bathrobe. I was not exaggerating when I said this was the silkiest bathrobe I had ever worn it a hotel. I wanted to bring it home!
As for dining, expect some fine food at the hotel's buffet called Brasserie on 3 Restaurant. You can also feast on some exceptional Chinese Cuisine at China Blue. This is Chef Jeremy Leung's first Chinese restaurant in the the country.
When you visit Conrad Manila, you will be in for a treat if you love art. You will get to see works by contemporary artists in the country. This installation by Leeroy New welcomes all the guests when they arrive.
Art exhibits are also held on a regular basis here.
For those who want to escape for a few hours or days, Conrad Manila can transport your mind somewhere else. Whether you are getting a massage at the Spa or relaxing by the pool, the whole atmosphere of Conrad will help you forget that you are in Manila.
Pool views from the Spa.
Since this is Manila, connecting a hotel to a mall can be a big advantage. Conrad has opened a luxurious mall named S Maison. With French company Malhberbe behind its design, S Maison brings exciting dining destinations and retail stores for everyone (You have to try Chibo Okonomiyaki for the Okonomiyaki!) The mall has an impressive state-of-the art Director's Club cinemas for a more enjoyable movie experience.
If you aren't lucky to stay here, I would recommend that you get some cocktails during sunset at the C Lounge. A sip of a margarita and the sun in the horizon can always do the trick.
For a brief moment, you would think that you are actually sailing on a cruise ship headed to any destination you desire. There is truly no better place to be.
