Four Seasons Hotel Firenze: An Urban Sanctuary in Florence

It was the ideal escape from the cold winter of the Netherlands. My family planned an eight-day trip in Tuscany, my favorite region in Italy. We would start in Lucca and end in Tuscany's capital -- Firenze. Florence is a city where people live and breathe art. It also happens to be the location of one of my all-time favorite properties - Four Seasons Hotel Firenze.

Under the supervision of the Florentine Monuments and Fine Arts Service, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze was restored and renovated without losing the grandeur of its past.  The property has two  buildings - the main Palazzo della Gherardesca and La Villa, a former 16th-century convent. The hotel has a total of 116 rooms, 42 of which are the most exquisite Renaissance-style suites you can ever imagine. La Villa offers a hotel-in-a-hotel experience because of its more private location.

Every corner in this hotel reminds you of the rich and unique history it has. Most of the frescoes and stuccoes you see now still date back to the 15th century.

Stay in one of the suites and live like an aristocrat for a few days.

Can you imagine staying here?

The highlight of the resort is the Giardino della Gherardesca, an 11-acre secret garden in the hotel. The garden has cedars, sequoias and other rare plants.

The hotel also has art installations all over the property.

Soak up the Tuscan sun by the poolside. The Spa is also right next to the pool, if you decide to pamper yourself more.

The Spa.

Among all the Four Seasons properties, I would say Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is certainly in my Top 5. For a city as busy as Florence (because of all the tourists), you will find yourself an oasis beyond the unassuming walls of the Four Seasons.  Enjoy La Dolce Vita.
